town will face crystal palace in the carabao cup

The confusing Carabao Cup second round draw last night saw Town drawn first at home, then corrected as away, to Crystal Palace. The tie will be played in the week commencing Monday 21st August. The tractor boys and the Eagles have in recent times shared some familiar faces, some of whom we could be lining up against in a couple of weeks.
The 36 year old centre back signed for Town in 2009 on a two year deal. however, in the following years pre-season he suffered a serious blood clot in his thigh which meant almost losing his leg, needing emergency surgery to stop this happening. 9 time Republic of Ireland international Delaney played 98 times for Town, scoring twice, including a Goal in the East Anglian Derby in November 2010, a game he was then sent off in.
Arguably one of Towns more well known loan signings, Andros Townsend, made 13 appearances for the Blues, scoring once. The deal for Townsend was originally a season-long loan deal in August 2010 but this was cut short in December by then Spurs manager Harry Redknapp as he felt Town had not been playing the winger enough. Townsend has since represented his country 13 times, scoring on three occasions.
The 4-time loanee Jonny Williams first signed for Town in February 2014, on an initial one month loan deal. He then returned in September but only managed 5 appearances, scoring once, due to a groin injury, returning to Palace in January 2015. His third spell began on the emergency loan deadline day in 2015, but the persistent groin injury meant he only appeared twice for the blues. The 31st August 2016 saw 'Joniesta' return for the fourth time, but injury plagued him once more restricting first team appearances. Jonny may not have made too many Town appearances but when he played he showed his class, take for example his wonder goal against Derby, vital at the time.
The 24 year old striker will have a soft spot in many Town fans hearts being a product of our own academy, making his senior debut in 2009 against Doncaster Rovers, becoming Towns youngest ever player. He made 65 appearances for the Blues senior side finding the net on 13 occasions, including a hat-trick and a memorable Wonder goal against Sheffield United. Although he won't feature against the blues as he is still recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury sustained last season.
The teams last met in the Championship at Portman Road in April 2013 when Town beat Palace 3-0 at Portman Road, thanks to a brace from Frank Nouble and a stunning strike from Aaron Cresswell.
