new squad numbers ANNOUNCED

With the start of the 2017/18 championship campaign just around the corner Ipswich town have released the squad numbers the players will wear for the upcoming season.
New boy Joe Garner has chosen to wear the number 14 for the upcoming season, the same number in which he wore through his successful 3 years with Preston where he netted 49 goals over the 129 games in which he featured. Still leaving the number 9 shirt vacant, last worn by Leon Best who was goalless and utterly useless in his time at Portman Road.
As well all know before Best’s flop of a campaign, Daryl Murphy used to also wear the infamous number 9 shirt who McCarthy has not been able to replace since his departure. Last season’s loan duo, Jordan Spence and Emyr Huws will wear the same numbers as they did through last season’s campaign, Huws choosing to keep number 44, and Spence retaining the number 12.
The recently signed Dominic Iorfa will wear the number 2 shirt previously held by Steven Taylor, who has not been offered a deal after McCarthy’s satisfaction with new defensive additions. Bersant Celina will be given Brett Pitman’s number 11 shirt, whilst Tom Adeyemi will now wear number 15, previously of Adam Webster who will now wear the number 6, which was last worn by stalwart Christophe Berra who was recently joined former club Hearts.
Kevin Bru, who has openly been told he can find a new club, has not been handed a squad number by the club, and is now surplus to requirements after his 3 years of service for Ipswich. The number 17 will now be taken by winger Danny Rowe who will be keen to make an impact this season after joining from Macclesfield in January.
Exciting prospect Flynn Downes has been given the number 21 this season with academy product Tristan Nydam being handed the number 22, previously held by veteran Jonathan Douglas.
This leaves Ipswich Town with a squad of 24 at this moment after some much needed trimming down of the squad this summer with 14 players departing Portman Road so far, freeing up the funds for Mick to add 6 players to his squad so far. McCarthy has recently come out saying that a new striker will be signed by the opening home clash against Birmingham City, which co-writer Ollie has written here.
