ipswich 3-0 wymondham ladies
Ipswich Town Ladies continued their encouraging pre-season form with a comfortable victory over Wymondham Ladies at Playford Road on Tuesday evening. Goals from Jade Henry, Lindsey Cooper and Natasha Thomas secured a 3-0 win for the Blues, as they look to press on with their preparations before the season opener against AFC Wimbledon on Sunday 20th August.

Town, who were playing in their newly sponsored and personally named shirts for the first time, started the match on the front foot and struck the woodwork as early on as the 3rd minute. Gemma Moore delivered a low cross from the right, which was powered against the bar on the volley by Amanda Crump.
The home side would take the lead after ten minutes and on this occasion Crump would turn provider. Having received the ball from Zoe Cossey down the left, she picked out Henry in the box. Her initial effort was smothered by a sliding defender, but the ball rebounded kindly and she slotted home at the second attempt.
Seven minutes later, Cooper doubled Town’s advantage, as Crump registered her second assist of the game. The No.8’s whipped delivery was nodded in at the near post by the on-rushing centre-half to assert her side’s dominance at that stage.
Despite the early scoreline, Wymondham never looked entirely out of the match and created chances of their own before the half time interval. The away side hit the crossbar and then tested Ipswich ‘keeper Leanne Smith from a free-kick as the first 45 minutes came to an end.
After the break, both teams struggled to carve out goal-scoring opportunities for a substantial period. When a notable chance did arrive, it fell the way of Town with ten minutes remaining. Thomas intercepted a loose pass from Wymondham at the back and sprinted clear of the defence. She then showed good composure to round the ‘keeper and stroke the ball into the net to cap off a convincing team display.
Sophie Welton almost added a fourth before the final whistle as she went clean through, but she could only hit her shot straight at the visiting ‘keeper.
Ipswich will now turn their attentions to Sunday, when they face Crystal Palace away from home in another pre-season fixture.
