DOZZELLS TEARS CRUCIATE LIGAMENT
Written By Ollie Allen
Arguably Town’s most exciting youngster, Andre Dozzell, has been ruled out of first team action for nine months after he sustained a nasty injury against Birmingham City last Saturday.
Dozzell visited the medical staff last night and it was confirmed that he has torn his cruciate ligament which will be leaving him on the sidelines for most probably the rest of the season.
Andre was one of the catalyst players in England’s Under 19 European Championships success last month, in which his consistently good performances made many fans believe that he was England’s player of the tournament.
In McCarthy’s pre match press conference for today’s Carabao Cup fixture against Luton Town (my preview for the game is also up now); he showed his sympathy for the 18 year old by saying: ‘It’s the season out for him and it’s very disappointing for us but especially for Dozzer. He will get looked after well by our medical staff and we wish him as quick a recovery as possible.’
I am absolutely gutted for Andre as I think that he was looking very promising after his first forty-three minutes on the pitch the other day. The European Championships has definitely improved his overall game; he looked like the best player on the pitch for the time he was playing.
He suited the central midfield ‘box to box’ role excellently and his agility was causing the Birmingham City midfield many problems. McCarthy definitely had ‘Dozzer’ in his plans this season, with the squad losing midfielder Kevin Bru I could of seen Andre playing a similar role to him this season Yes it’s a big loss for Town but these things happen and I am sure Andre will come back even stronger from this setback.
Everyone here at Ipswich Town Talk wishes Andre a speedy recovery and we all hope to see you back in an Ipswich Town shirt soon!
