Town have finally announced the loan signing of young Manchester City winger Bersant Celina on a season long deal, which has sparked the excitement of many Ipswich fans as the highly rated youngster had attracted attention from some of Europe’s top clubs.
The Kosovo international who used to represent Norway at youth level has arrived after seemingly decade long negotiations had finally been agreed. Bersant was on loan at respectable Eredivisie side FC Twente last year, helping them finish 7th in what turned about to be a solid season for the Eastern Dutch side. Celina managed to nab himself 5 goals and 5 assists last season which could prove crucial in replacing Tom Lawrence, with him proving in a fairly tough and tiring division that he can get goals from midfield, something which we need.
Town’s new acquisition has proved to be an impressive one as papers such as the Daily Mail and the incredibly popular Goal.com had previously stated that German giants Borussia Dortmund were monitoring his progression. Ipswich has reportedly been able to fend off tough opposition from other clubs such as Leeds and FC Twente themselves, with Celina stating that McCarthy was a big factor as to why he signed.
Personally, I think that this a great addition to Mick McCarthy’s squad, with Celina having the skills, finishing, dribbling and flair to do the job that Ryan Fraser and Tom Lawrence had done previously. I know you can’t judge a player by a highlights compilation but various Manchester City and FC Twente fans have been shouting his praise with popular Twitter account @Everything_City even stating that they were ‘biffed he didn’t stay’ and that he is a ‘proper baller’. Sounds like a classy player which could help change the least classy football in the Championship.
