Former Town forward Alan Lee tells me his most memorable match, the best manager he play under and more.
What was your most memorable match?
It was the second last game of the season playing for Rotherham in the 1st division. I scored in the last minute to gain us promotion. The pitch invasion and celebrations will live with me forever!!
Who was the best player you played with and why ?
I think Kevin Kilbane, I admired his ability and his attitude.
Who was your toughest player you played against and why?
I remember playing against Gareth Southgate, He was like a rash, all over you, never gave you space to relax. He was stronger then he looks as well.
What was your favourite ground you played at and why?
I loved portman road, even before I signed. There’s a special atmosphere when there’s a big game. You feel really close to the fans.
Who was the best manager you played under and why?
I enjoyed playing under Joe Royle, he was a gentleman who always had the respect of his players. He treated you fairly. I still see him from time to time.
What was your pre match routine? eg luck item, superstitions
I used to start kick off on the right side of the circle.
Do you follow Ipswich's progress or attend any of their games?
I get to see most of the home games, last season I managed three away as well. It all depends on where the youth team is playing and if we can make it back in time.
Do you keep in touch with any of your former team mates and if so who?
Its hard to keep in touch with everyone but its always nice to see old teammates. The banter starts straight back up from where it left off!!!
Now you are no longer playing football how do you occupy yourself?
I am very busy with two kids under the age of three!
If you could go back and do one thing differently, what would it be?
There’s probably a hundred chances that I’d love to transport myself back in time, but maybe that would be greedy........
